An interesting first day - we managed 15 miles and christ can this lot moan - to be fair we did get completely lost in a forest somewhere near Bangor. Completely alone other than an over sized hare and two slightly bemused art students it took us an hour to find our way out to an industrial estate - thankfully the lady from COAST FM directed us out. We did our first walk radio interview this morning. It resulted in a beep from a car and a couple of good lucks. Money would have been nicer :-)
Mark was in his element on the roads and even managed to walk
past 2 pubs today. His idea for putting heelies in his hiking
boots got more sensible as the day went on.
Having done our 15 miles for the day we were duly rescued by Val and
hubby Paul. Shaun K was rescued from some services on the A55 where
he had sprinted to relieve himself (must have had a bad prawn as
he'd already disproved the theory that its only bears that sh*t in
woods!), and us from some village with a name that obviously we
can't pronounce.
Morale is in the balance here as having arrived at the B&B in the
middle of nowhere, the bar is closed because the owner is having his
tea ... Mark has retired to his bed in disgust.
Tomorrow brings mountains and more pain. At least the weather is
glorious.
Given that Flash, Shaun H and Ste have the inter city train track
about 10 paces from their bedroom window, we could be starting
early.
Here's to a beer, should the owner ever finish his tea!

Day 1 - morning. Well we wake up to glorious sunshine and
slightly dull headaches. Nothing a good breakfast and some fresh air
won't fix.
My route planning leadership has swiftly been challenged as Steven
produced his own copy of the map and 'short cut' Cameron began to
make amendments to my route. I suppose my case wasn't helped by the
fact my planned route for today was 'lets just follow the coast' - i
think they worry too much!
Well the team are bonding well, Steven is our resident gadget man
with his own personal GPS system. Not sure of the value of this yet
given the only thing it seems to be able to do is tell us the speed
of the Vauxhall Movano van. And no, he didn't bring the instructions
...
More later.
