Blog - Day 2

1 May 2007 (PM)

Da da da da da da da da J

(Nigel - after watching the football!)

1 May 2007 - Guest Blog

Today has been a tough day of walking, with numerous mountains summits reached and a total of 18 hard miles covered. However, the days excursions have taken their toll on the team:
Shaun's & Nigel - blisters
Chaffing - all
Mark - only option available is double foot amputation!

There have been positives from the day in that there have been no unscheduled excursions into the wilderness (maybe a coincidence that Nigel was barred from holding the map) and the scenery has been stunning.

There have been a couple of classic quotes to add to the ever growing list:
Steve to Nigel "I hate you, this is torture!"
Nigel to group as we crossed the top of a field with a particlarly mean looking bull "there is no way that that bull can get up that hill", instantly followed by aforementioned bull doing an impression of a gazelle by charging straight up the hill towards us.

That's it for tonight as we are off to watch the footy - and we all hope that Liverpool win as Mark will be unbearable for not only tomorrow, but I fear the rest of the week!

Today was tough - I suppose being chased out of a field by a bull first thing was a bad omen. This though was proper walking - across fields and up hills. Add in 22 degree heat and sunshine and it was obvious we were going to suffer. By lunch all the water had gone so we drank from a massive waterfall. All very Timotei and fingers crossed we don't all come down with stomach upsets.

Mark takes a lead with the map ? Picturesque and tasty!

Flash and Shaun were the stars at map reading - though of course they were following the green line that yours truly had plotted. even my revelation that i only realised half way through that i had plotted some in km and some in miles failed to dent enthusiasm.

Well done to the welsh we got 47 quid in donations during the day today.

Injuries are mounting. Mark feet are a mess, Steven just gets redder and Shaun H has blisters and chafing bordering on second degree burns.

Oh dear! Ouch! The end of a tough day.

18 miles today which in Steven's words 'were complete torture' - morale tomorrow will depend on Liverpool beating cheating Chelski - we live in hope.

We've also decided to do a daily guest Blog from one of the team - two for one, you lucky people!

A good night last night spent over a glass of wine and some fine food - main revelation was flash explaining how his plate full of welsh steak had originated from a sheep. Clearly, the sun is getting to him - not hard given his balding pate! Flash is on the map today so hopefully order in that department will be restored. Today looks scary so fingers crossed everyone will make it to Conwy without any of yesterday's mishaps.

Oh yes, thanks to welsh trains for the 5.30am fast train - better than any cockerel, when you are only a stones throw away!
