Expectation for today was pain and suffering. To counter this our first stop was the local supermarket to stock up on creams, tape and pills. This and some horse tranquilliser from a bloke in the pub helped to alleviate the pain. The suffering was an endurance battle against the Welsh mountains.
The day's major achievement was reaching mountain height for the first time eventually peaking at 1435ft.
Today's stats:
- no significant new injuries
- nearly 15 mountainous miles covered in 7h50.
Quote of the day: 'This is so steep I'm getting grass stains on my nose' from Mark. He was crawling at the time.
Animal impression of the day: again Mark. First we thought he was copying Nige's prancing but it became clear that his bounding through the undergrowth was his ape act as he sat Buddha like while his troop threw bananas at him.
Flash and his trusty thumb led the way keeping us on the straight and narrow for most of the day until the mob rebelled at the prospect of another hill and we ended up trudging along the bottom of a dry river bed and then climbing the hill anyway; no complaints this time.
Scotch egg anyone?

Today was tough. the sight of mark on all fours trying to get up a 1000ft mountain will stay with me for some time. Still he did it though we felt the pain of every step with him. He can out-sheep a sheep with his bleating.
Whilst beached half way up the hill mark was heard shouting for a rope and also complaining loudly that it was so steep he was getting grass stains on his chin!
Still we all completed it and we now stand at a very pleasing 84 miles. Shaun h Has just been caught on the phone again talking to daisy the dog again. Apparently, she's been swimming today.
We have worked out what is in steve's bag - scotch egg's and jelly babies. Each to their own i suppose.
We finished today with a little detour of mine along a dried up river bed - i thought the little map deviation went rather well and was surprised by some of the criticism led by mark from the back of the pack. Mutterings were heard about me measuring the route with elastic string given how far and long we are walking.
We are now on our way to bangor
races with val doing a passable
impression of daisy duke. Assuming
we survive, more later.

A muted start today - something to do with the two 450 ascents before
lunch.
We sit here in the bus waiting for steven to do his hair and get his
boots on.
Flash has got the right grump on today, no one is quite sure why - something
to do with a completely unnecessary mid evening shower? Or have him
and steven, to date an unlikely but strangely happy couple, fallen out?
More later as we discover what really is in steven's 50 pound rucksack.

The last 'speech' I wrote was for a wedding and the formula seemed
to work so I thought I'd use it again. I'd like to say a personal thank-you
to all the people that have very generously sponsored us: my colleagues
on Pegasus, friends, family and RAM. Also, thanks go out to Val and
Paul for looking after us so well and to Vauxhall for the Movano - if
only it could off-road it would be perfect.
Unfortunately at this stage the speech formula fails and rather wishing
the happy party all the best for the future I'm not giving anyone away
but I'm joining them. Welcome to Nige's world of torture. Today's trek
up the mountains of Offa's Dyke promises the most suffering yet.
Bring on the pain!
