Blog - Pre-Walk

25 April 2007

With under a week to go until the walk begins tensions are beginning to rise and the excitement level is growing.  I’ve done a big shop at Tesco and stocked up on ibrufen, paracetamol, alka seltzer and dettol.  Just the knee braces and blister plasters to get and we’ll be all set.  Steve has also been to the shops and got a box of team mars bars.  I feel compelled to say it but what could possibly go wrong?  Hmm, well the weather forecast shows heavy showers on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.  Bugger.

On a positive note, the money is rolling in.  Everyone is chipping in and raising a great amount for the Hospice.  Thank you to everyone who I have hassled for cash over the last month or so.  It always amazes me how generous people are for these kind of things.  Hopefully we’ll do you all proud and manage to drag ourselves over the finish line on Sunday the 6th and sink a celebratory pint at the Black Horse.

The last walk taught us a few things.  For example 4 pints of Strongbow (or Stella if the cider is off) can cure almost any leg pain built up after a day’s walking, a strangulated hernia really is very painful (just ask Trevor “pasta bowl” Gardner and I am sh*t at map reading (although finding a disused army prisoner of war camp was actually quite exciting for the first hour of wandering aimlessly around it).  What we’ll learn on this one is for future blogs but as long as we have a few laughs, a few beers and a few warm B&B’s to dry out our boots and clothes we’ll be happy.

We’ll try and update this blog every day of the walk (that is assuming that they have tinternet in North Wales J – Bring on Monday!
